Festivals are sponsored by the Santa Barbara Branch of the MTAC and are adjudicated by esteemed music educators from Southern California. Judges write comments for each student, and then select the top 20% to perform at the Showcase Recital. Festivals are for students K-12, who love to perform, have good stage presence, and desire to receive more feedback on their performance skills.
Recitals: One or more studio recitals are typically scheduled per year, and families will be notified well in advance. Monthly MTAC branch student recitals are held September through May, on Monday evenings at 7:00 PM at First Ukrainian Evangelical Baptist Church (150 Pebble Hill Ct., SB). I can enter three students each month (often more), and I encourage students to participate periodically, especially just prior to Auditions, Festivals, or Competitions.
Ensemble Festivals provide an opportunity for students of all ages to perform ensemble music in a non-competitive and welcoming format. Ensemble Festivals are open to any combination of instrumental and vocal students. Vocal Ensemble Auditions can consist of up to eight vocalists. Ensemble Festivals are designed to encourage and motivate students to explore the musical challenges inherent in the study and performance of ensemble music. Ensembles are given constructive comments, along with a rating from 1-5. Students receiving a ‘5’ are invited, but not required, to perform at the CAPMT Festival Celebrations
